Kristen Soller is an artist and care practitioner with roots in Florida and the Philippine islands, currently based in Los Angeles. My artistic practices attend to the intersections of imagination, spirit, and memory. I currently work with sound, hypnosis, and bodywork as tools of inquiry and dialogue. I wonder: How can we deepen our relationships with the worlds within and around us? How can connecting with what is alive within us (re)animate the world around us? What possibilities for wonder, care, and healing open up when we acknowledge an animate world — one in which everything within and around us is alive? How can using our intuition, imagination, and senses deepen our conversations with the worlds within and around us?
Alongside my current practices, I have 12+ years of experience in mass communications — including copywriting, branding, and public relations — which unearths the question: what stories, personal and collective, do we carry and listen to?
For three years, I hosted and produced Kidnapped for Dinner, a podcast featuring long-form conversations about disorienting and difficult moments in the creative process. Mana Contemporary commissioned me to host a series of live artist talks, broadcasted by Orchid.fm, during Miami Art Week 2019.
I formally started making sound work under the moniker ‘taupe set xl’ during my residency at pocoapoco in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2019.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Miami in 2012, completed my hypnosis training from the Divine Feminine School of Hypnosis at the end of 2020, and became certified by The National Guild of Hypnotists in 2021. I am currently a practitioner-in-training in the Kailukuan Combat and Healing Arts Ablon Therapist Certification Program.
